rolling over

Today I put Lily on her back with a few toys in the office, walked into our bedroom, and when I came back she was on her stomach! Apparently she now knows how to roll from her back to stomach too! Here's a video of her proud accomplishment (don't mind my annoying voice) :)

touch of fall

Generally speaking I'm not a seasonal decorator other than decorating for Christmas. I think my style is neutral enough that I don't need to constantly change it. That being said, I do like to switch thing up every now and then and swap out a few things around the house when the weather changes. So I did my "fall decorating" last week and this is what I came up with:

my wreath - i made this one using stuff from hobby lobby

my "decorative" table - silly, we don't actually eat here but i like to keep it decorated pretty

berries in the windowsill - i swapped out my flowers for some fall follage and berries
i put this together with things from hobby lobby

I still plan to put some pumpkins on the porch but that's about it. I also planted 2 purple mums in place of my green plants on the porch - I really love the purple. I also found these neat holiday art pieces on a website the other day that I thought were really cute and I may attempt to recreate with some paint and a canvas if I get some time - aren't they cute!

downstairs

I'm finally getting around to posting pictures of our basement. When we first moved in we had nothing down here because we had no furniture and no workout equipment. But, after writing a fat check we have a furnished basement! I love having the exercise stuff right in our home because it gives me no excuse for not doing it - even if that means waiting until Jimmy gets home and/or Lily is asleep for the day to get it in! I also really like having the music room downstairs because it gives him his space to jam out as loud as he wants without bugging anyone :), and the storage in this house is great - it's nice to have lots of places for extra "stuff" in the house so you're not always heading to the garage and grabbing the ladder when you need something.

Here's some pictures.

Lily's latest trick.

trip to denver

This past weekend we made the long trek to Denver, CO to spend the weekend with my sister and her family. My nephew was being dedicated on Sunday so we wanted to join them for the special occasion.

We left Cedar Falls with my parents about 8pm on Thursday night. Our plan was to drive as far as we could before getting too tired since Lily was sleeping. We got to Lincoln, NE about 1am and decided to call it quits. We stayed in a lovely hotel called the Settle Inn right off the interstate and crashed before hitting the road the next day. We hit the road about 9am for the last 7 hours of the drive. Lily did great in the car - she slept a lot of the time and I had plenty of toys to keep her occupied. I also brought along the portable DVD player because she recently has enjoyed watching her "Praise Baby" DVDs so I thought maybe that would tie her over if she got fussy - and that it did. Here's a shot of her zoning out to her worship DVD :)

watching her "movie"

We rolled into Denver about 4pm Friday afternoon and enjoyed some time just hanging out - Kirsten made a yummy dinner and we crashed pretty early.

Saturday morning my mom, dad and I had a 11 mile run so we went to a park close to their house that we knew was relatively flat and was a 1 mile loop. 11 laps got a little redundent but the elevation didn't bother us as much as we thought it might and overall it was a pretty good run! 11 miles is the furthest we've gone in our training so far (12 miles this Saturday)and it's the most I've run in over a year so I was pretty proud of myself! After our run we headed back to their house and enjoyed some pumpkin pancakes before getting ready to head to the mountains. Saturday afternoon we went for a little hike in the mountains to look at the Aspens as they are already turning colors for fall - so pretty! We ended the day with a Target run, pizza, and a movie.

Then Sunday we were off to church in the morning to witness Sam's dedication that actually turned into a baptism - oops! Enjoyed lunch back at my sister's with Ivan's (my brother in law) parents too and then an afternoon of hanging out and playing outside. The weather was awesome all weekend! Sunday night we had planned to meet up with Jimmy's aunt, uncle, and cousins for dinner since they live in Colorado Springs and hadn't met Lily yet. So we drove about 30 minutes to meet them for dinner and hangout a bit. It's always good to see them and we wish we all lived closer because we really enjoy our time with their family. They loved Lily to pieces and are anxious to see her (and us) again this summer when Jimmy's little sister gets married. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of their meeting!

Then Monday was back in the car for the long trek back to Iowa! We did the whole drive in one day and weren't sure how Lily would do but she did great. She only got fussy a few times and we never really stopped because of her - it was always because someone needed the bathroom, or lunch time, etc. So that was good! We also made a stop in Des Moines to meet up with my little sister and brother in law for dinner because it was my sister's birthday. It was nice to get out of the car for an hour or so and spend some time with them celebrating her birthday too!

It was a fun trip. We weren't sure how Lily would do driving that far but she did great and it's always so fun to visit them in Denver. Of course it's always hard to say good bye and get back into our routine after being gone for a few days but it's always worth it! Fortunately we don't have to wait long to see them again because we are heading to San Diego just after Christmas this year and in the words of Asher "don't worry, we will play in California"

giggles

I finally got a video of her laughing that's short enough to upload on here! She's been doing this for quite a while now I just don't always catch them on camera.

Such a sweet sweet sound! :)

repost: if & when

So I've re-posted a post from this girls blog before and I'm going to do it again but she is such a great writer and sometimes her words just hit home for me. I don't know her, she is one of those blogs I found off someone else's blog but I like it so I continue to read it. In this post she writes poeticly (is that a word?) about some of the current struggles of her life and how trusting in something so much bigger than us is the only thing she has to hold onto. While I'm not currently enduring these same struggles it is still so relevant. We must every day know that God "has our back" and has something so much bigger in mind for whatever the day may bring. We will face hard times and we will face wonderful times and He knows because He planned them all - such a solid truth to be reminded of! Anyways - here's her post - enjoy!

When trust in my job is shaken

and an expensive root canal is a must

and then a crown has to follow

and the tenant's air conditioner breaks

and the dog gets sick three weeks in a row

and the house falls away

and money has to go here

and there

and everywhere except back into the bank account

and the bank account dries up

and the to do list outweighs the hours in the day

and I can't catch a break

and the tears come unexpectedly

and they come more often

and doubt creeps into

my security

my marriage

my job

my plan

His plan

and the first eight months of the year have just been really hard

I settle into the fact that He knows what He is doing

and He is over it all

and He is on my side

and He is bigger than anything that could possibly come my way

because He is the Master of the earth

the Creator of my being

the Planner of my life

the Calmer of storms

and the Fighter of my battles

and at the sound of His name

He is there

always there

day and night

dark and light

so I stop

I just stop

stop overthinking

stop worrying

stop trying to control it all

and I just breathe

and trust

and rest in the very moment He has given me.

a day in the life of

So lots of bloggers have been writing "a day in the life of" posts lately so I thought I'd hop on the band wagon and give you a glimpse into our daily life. Here's an example of a typical weekday for us.
Morning alarm goes off at 5:45am and ready or not I hop (or roll) out of bed, throw on some clothes, brush my teeth, put my contacts in, and head into the office. Jimmy gets up a little before me and heads out the door as I start my work between 6:30 and 7am. Most days I make my way down to the kitchen before him and make us both an iced coffee and some breakfast - usual toast, a banana, and/or some yogurt or cereal. Then he's out the door and I'm back up to the office to get some work in before Lily wakes up.

Lily wakes up between 7:30 and 8am and I get her changed, fed, dressed, and back to the office we go. She plays on the floor while I work some more. My "typical" working hours are 6-10am but depending on meetings and and other things I'm involved in those can fluctuate somewhat. Around 9ish Lily lays down for her morning nap and I finish up my work for the day while she sleeps. On mornings that I have conference calls and/or just have a lot I need to get done we have Jimmy's younger sister, Jalissa, come and watch Lily. She goes to Hawkeye and doesn't have class until 12:30 every day so it works well with her schedule and is very helpful for me! Generally speaking though Lily is at a really good age to allow me to get my work done in the mornings and have her here with me since she sleeps in pretty late, plays well by herself for a bit, and then lays back down for a nap. Our schedule may get a little (or a lot) more interesting as she gets older and more busy!

this is the sweet face i get to see every morning :)
My work is primarily spreadsheets and analytical work. My actual "title" is Market Analyst but I'd say my primary role/responsibility is forecasting for the Remanufacturing business for John Deere in North America, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Russia. Day to day tasks are lots of emails, reviewing forecasts, setting up reporting/tracking sheets, and/or preparing for upcoming meetings. I really like my job. It's a job that I kind of stumbled upon as I knew I was going to move to Springfield to live with Jimmy after our wedding and John Deere basically just found me something. It's been such a blessing to me at this point in my life - it's a little less hectic of a job than ones I've had in the past which works well for the chapter we are in as a new family. It's definitely challenging as I'd never done any sort of forecasting prior to this role and the Remanufacturing business is unlike any other area of John Deere. My boss is extremely flexible, supportive, and encouraging - which is always helpful. And the balance of part time, so far, has been good. Right now I seem to be working more hours than I signed up for but I'm hoping/thinking that will slow down a bit once I get caught up. So, that's my job - in a nutshell.

Lily wakes up from her nap sometime between 10:30 and 11am and I usually play with her for a bit - read her books, play with some of her little toys, "talk" with her, and just snuggle on her a bit before getting myself ready. I make a point to always get a shower in and get myself dressed at a fairly decent time - it helps me feel better about myself each day and I think it's important. I usually make myself some lunch then we either head out for some errands, I do laundry, get some cleaning done and/or get in some more work. Our afternoons are always a little different day to day. Lily is more of a cat napper in the afternoon so she takes several shorter naps more frequently.

I've tried to create a home schedule for the housework and so far it's working really well. I do all my meal planning on Sunday nights so I get groceries and do all laundry on Monday's, I have begun attending a women's Bible study on Tuesdays, Wednesdays is cleaning day - we have a 3 floor home so I am rotating between doing the main floor and basement or the upstairs each week, Wednesdays we attend a Breastfeeding Support Group of 1st time mom's at the hospital, Thursdays I attend a mom's group at a local church, and Fridays are our free day. I am also training for a half marathon next month so I run 4 days a week and do my runs in the afternoon. On the days that I don't have a training run we always get out and go for a walk around the neighborhood. I am big on getting outside every day with Lily to enjoy the nice weather while we have it! I manage to squeeze in blogging, making hair bows, catching up on DVR shows, decorating, reading other blogs and/or my kindle during nap time in the afternoon.

riding in the stroller like a big girl now (without the car seat adapater)
Jimmy usually gets home from work between 5:30 and 6pm (although lately it's been closer to 10 or 11pm but that's definitely not our norm). Once he's home he spends some time playing with Lily while I get dinner started. We eat between 7 and 7:30pm, spend a little more time together playing with Lily until her bedtime, which is between 8 and 9pm. Once we lay Lily down Jimmy and I typically just hangout - whether that's just talking and snuggling :) or watching some TV we really just try to spend some time together every single night. Neither of us are involved in night time groups and/or activities (yet) so it's nice to have our evenings together and some 1:1 time once Lily lays down.

Jimmy and I then head to bed between 10 and 11pm then we get up and do it all over again!

So that's a "typical" day for me and our little family. I'm excited about the groups I'm a part of this fall (more to come on those) and feel like it's going to be a great balance of work, time with Lily, and activities!

4 months

Lily May was 4 months on Saturday!

This month is feels like she's grown so much and is doing so many new things. She continue to be the joy of my day and I feel so so blessed that I am home with her.

She is still topping the charts (over them actually) in the weight category:) She now weighs 17 lbs 8oz and is 24.5 inches tall, compared to her 3 month stats of 15 lbs 11 oz and her 2 month height of 22.5 inches (didn't get her length at 3 months!). So, she's growing and healthy and extra chubby - just how we like them!

New things this month are laughing - her sweet little giggles are almost daily and they just melt my heart every time! She is still teething, the drool just runs like a faucet all day long but no teeth have popped through yet - hopefully soon. She arches her back quite frequently when she's mad, doesn't want to lay down, or when putting her in her car seat. She is always wanting to stand - she has strong little legs and will stand while holding onto fingers for a very long time before taking a seat. She found her toes and plays with them all the time - when I'm changing her diaper, when she's laying on the floor, whenever she can reach those little things :) She has definitely become more interested in toys and while she was grabbing them last month I've really noticed a difference in the amount she actually plays with them this month. I also put her in a bouncer gym? not sure what you'd call it - picture below, for the first time. This one is piggy backed off another first - I brought her to a church nursery while attending a moms group (MOPS) which was her first time going into a nursery and they put her right in that so I put her in ours at home and she loves it!  I think that's most of her firsts for this month!

She is wearing mostly 3-6M clothing, some 6M and even a few things that are 6-9M. I have pretty much boxed up all her summer stuff and she's now wearing fall things - so cute! I can't wait to bust out her little pink Ugg boots!

Her sleep pattern is the same, for the most part. The last week or so she's been a bit of a stinker and has waken up around 4-5am, I feed her and try to put her back down but she's wide awake and just crys and crys when I leave the room. So, we've given in and let her sleep with us after that morning wake up. I'm hoping this ends soon or else I may have to read up on some suggestions for things to try.

Other than that she just continues to be her happy, easy going self. She is so so lovable and the best parts of my days are kissing on her, playing with her, and figuring out how to be her mama! Jimmy has had to work long long hours for the last few weeks so we are anxiously awaiting a break for him and for us too. We are heading to Denver on Friday to see my sister and I can't wait. My nephew is getting dedicated so Lily and I (and maybe Jimmy) are heading there for the weekend. My brother in law, Ivan, hasn't met Lily yet so we are looking forward to that as well as introducing her to Jimmy's aunt, uncle, and cousins that live in Colorado Springs. They are going to drive up and join us for dinner on Sunday night so they will meet Lily too!

That's all for now - and here's pictures from our 4 month shoot as well as a little video of her showing of her little attitude - enjoy!:)

just because she won't sit sometimes - here's one of her standing:)

Sorry some of those are upside down - can't figure out how to change them!

labor day

We enjoyed an extra day off (for me at least) this past weekend and enjoyed the extra time with family celebrating my dad's 55th birthday!

Jimmy has been putting in lots of extra hours at work lately and had to work ALL weekend which stinks but at least I got to enjoy the extra day off and spend some additional time with family.

Saturday my mom came into town and we spent some time together running a few errands - picking up Scratch cupcakes for my dad's birthday, trying out the new frozen yogurt place (not good!) and doing a few other things as well. It's really really great living back "home" and being able to just spend some time with my parents without planning ahead!

Sunday morning was an early start to get in a 8 mile training run. My training has been challenging thus far so I was very encouraged by a great long run with my sister - it's so helpful to have a running buddy - I wish I had one for my mid week runs as well! After the run I went back to my parents, since Jimmy had to work all day again, and spent the day there - mostly with my sister Jacinda just hanging out. Then Sunday night was party time! We had a get together to celebrate my dad's birthday with yummy food, Scratch cupcakes, and a motorcycle show from my 5 year old nephew, Devin :)

Here's a pic and video of Devin with his new ride - as you can hear we were a little nervous about him hitting the vehicles :)

Monday was a day of errands and relaxing since Jimmy had to work once again! He's in charge of a major manufacturing transition and its crunch time for the project so hopefully the work load will lighten up drastically in the next few weeks as I've been feeling like a single parent lately and not liking it one bit!

That's all for now - I realized I still haven't posted pictures of the basement so I will do that soon as well!
